Fall 2008 Sports Recap
The Sundevils had another great season:

Our Boys Varsity Soccer team finished the season with a record of 18-6 overall and 6-0 in district, winning its thirteenth consecutive district championship. The team was lead by Patrick Longley ’10, Bronson Duran ‘10 and Evan Boulanger ‘09 on offense and Doug Passalaqua ’10 in goal. Before a huge crowd of supporters and in frigid and windy weather, the boys defeated Socorro 4-0 in the State semifinals. The boys finished second in state in a very close game in the State finals.

The Girls Varsity Soccer team won its tenth consecutive district championship finishing 19-5 overall and 6-0 in district. The team was lead by Elena Benavides ‘09, Julia Thompson ‘11 and Melina Toman ‘10 on offense and Tess Richey ’09 in goal. The girls also finished second in state in a very close match.

Our Varsity Volleyball team finished district runner-up with a record of 11-12 overall and 5-3 in district. The team was led by Kate Douglas ‘10, Ali Chen ‘10 and Neesha Arter ‘09.

Both Boys and Girls Cross Country had amazing seasons. Bronwyn Bedrick '09 led the girls team by winning the district championship for the second consecutive year and finishing third at the state competition. Dillon Shije '09 became the first Prep boy to win district and finished 3rd at State. Both Bedrick and Shije set the record for the highest finish of any previous Prep runner. Sara Cap ‘09 and Jensen Hoke ‘09 also qualified for the State meet.
Overall, more than 1/3 of the student body participated on at least one fall team. School spirit was high, with large crowds at the State soccer tournament and the Hope Volleyball match, during which the school raised more than $800 for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
